"Laugh is the the closest distance between two people"
International Comedy Film Festival 2017
Dear audience and members,
Time has come for the fourth edition of the International Comedy Film Festival and the theme is Comedy, Power and Representation. This year we have chosen to focus on 6 films - 6 stars!
This year's fantastic guests are: Lebanese mega star Julia Kassar, who is well known and popular throughout the Arab world; Branka Katic, the Serbian star who got her breakt-hrough with Kusturica and now is pursuing her career in Hollywood; "Turkish Hasse Al-fredson", popular actor Erdal Özyağcılar, who can be seen in both movies and popular TV shows; Kathryn Sermak, the fascinating woman who has worked and become close fri-ends with one of Hollywood's biggest names, the infallible Bette Davis; Lisa Nilsson, one of Sweden's greatest singers, who also shines as an actress and Bahar Pars, the Swedish-Iranian actress, who became known in the whole country as Ove's neighbor, Parvaneh.
In 2016 we subtitled A Man Called Ove and screened it to Afghan refugee children and adolescents. We’ll now round up the ”tour” by showing it one last time at the festival. On top of that Lisa Nilsson and Aminah Al Fakir Bergman will sing "I Have Walked Over the Mountains", a song that Aminah wrote as an empowering message to those young re-fugees.
Especially for our grand Opening night, both Lisa and Aminah will sing together with singers and musicians from the Songlines project - a project that focuses on newly arrived young people. Alongside this year's main theme, the festival will also focus on Women and Comedy. Because of that, it feels really great to host the sneak-premiere of the brand new Swedish comedy All Inclusive, directed by Karin Fahlén and with an ama-zing team of female actors. Another very special guest is scriptwriter Vijal Patel, who will give a Master Class about his work with the American successful tv series Black-ish. The series portrays an African-American family in the United States, but we will of course also take a closer look at our own country - for example, in the Women of Colour in Comedy seminar.
This festival is yours! So, on our opening night at Skandia, let’s make a toast and laugh so loudly that Drottninggatan is filled with love and humanity and cleansed completely from hate and fear.
Let's all meet in laughter!
Nisti Stêrk, Festival director
